Dying with dignity. Passing on one’s own terms. Approaching the end in a caring, nurturing atmosphere. There are plenty of reasons people check in to Hospice House…but Eddie Flynn’s just there for the morphine.

Eddie’s lung capacity is down to 15%, he’s in continual pain, and he’s constantly burning up with fever from the infection he just can’t shake. Given his physical condition, he’s baffled to find himself fawning over the hot guy stocking the vending machines.

Eddie figures it’s futile to even flirt with someone, considering how little time he’s got left. But there’s something about the guy with the name “Chance” embroidered on his coveralls that he just can’t stop thinking about—not only for Chance’s naughty smile and bedroom eyes.

It seems Eddie’s somehow ended up with Chance’s pen.

Wishink Well Petit Morts Book 10 edition by Jordan Castillo Price Literature Fiction eBooks

The Petit Morts series is delightful. So far all of the stories are 4 or 5 star quality. Though each stands alone, I would recommend that you read earlier stories before this one, so that a recurring character is more fleshed out for you. The additional information provides a broader context for this character's thoughts and actions.

It is something of a miracle that the author was able to write about this particular topic and hook me and make the final scene so beautiful and sexy and heartbreaking and transcendent. Normally I would resist caring about a character in this situation - too painful to vicariously experience his circumstances. But here, I also wanted to celebrate the conclusion, and the gift that was given. It was an incredibly rich and mixed and rare emotional stew.

I would have rated this 5 stars but for one false note expressed in two sentences. I don't think I've ever faulted a story for a single flaw, but this was startling enough to take me out of the story, because it engaged in stereotype and perpetuated macho culture in a way that is the antithesis of gay culture (583). Regrettable because otherwise, this diamond is perfect.

Wishink Well Petit Morts Book 10 edition by Jordan Castillo Price Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Jordan Castillo Price once again has delivered a 5 star story.
I don't want to give away to much. It's a take on the 'monkey's paw' and 'be careful what you wish for'. Yes, it'll take most people out of their comfort zone but that's a good thing. Well crafted and executed. It's a story that makes you think and see the peace the ending provides.
The insight into the character of Chance is wonderful. What fun to see him outside of the chocolate shop. This is my favorite story of the whole series. Jordan Castillo Price has done an outstanding job not only with this story but the whole series as well.
I look forward to the next batch by Sean Kennedy, Josh Lanyon and Jordan Castillo Price and will be sad when the series comes to an end.
This might be the first time I've cried while reading a sex scene. It was just...emotional. Not bad--It's a fantastic story, like all the rest of the Petite Morts series. It just has that extra layer that tied everything in really well while being intensely meaningful at the same time.

I'm still working my way through the PM stories (this one is #10 out of 17), but I think this is one of my faves. And like in Spanish Fly Guy, another favorite, I like it a lot when Chance becomes more of a character in the story. He's just really interesting. And the way things played out, I wondered afterwards how it was for him to suddenly be a participant, and what kind of impact that would have on such a cool, collected character such as himself.

Great read, although I think I may need a little time to dry my eyes before moving on to Petite Mort #11.
**spoiler alert** This was great. I mean, thank you JCP because it takes courage to write something like that, something so intense and dignified, warming and chilling at the same time. It's a story that has to end this way to respect the characters, especially Eddie, the protagonist, who's in a hospice waiting to die. It would have been good to wrap everything in a pink bubble and grant everyone their wishes, but it would have been unimpressive and, I feel, false. Since we also have a big piece of Chance in this installment, it was interesting to see him out of his depth, almost unbalanced. It was moving, and sad, but it wasn't hopeless. It was gracious. And dignified, again. It was about choices, and acceptance. Eddie is one of the most decent characters I've ever read and it might sound crazy, I think I'm mourning him with this review. It made an emotional mess of me.
Eddie Flynn is dying. He wants a cold Pepsi and a break from the eternal heat the infection wracking his body leaves him feeling. But the vending machine isn't giving him his Pepsi. Chance, the hot vending machine guy, gives him his soda and a pen to use so he can write a complaint to the company. Eddie ends up getting a lot more than Pepsi from Chance.

While I'm sure Eddie would rather not be dying, he seems at peace with it, although he does struggle with both regret and acceptance. The hospice is a surprisingly uplifting place. It's comforting and peaceful. I think this is partly due to Eddie's kind and compassionate, but not patronizing, nurse, Travaughn. Chance plays a big role in Wishink Well. He shows more emotion and personality than ever before. I love him even more now. Wishink Well's one sex scene packs a very emotional and heated punch. It's incredibly poignant and very well written considering the magnitude of its significance. Jordan Castillo Price has created a series that showcases a variety of writing talents and truly extraordinary, magical stories with Petit Morts. Wishink Well is a bittersweet story--no pun intended--about life and love and lust and wishes and choices. Ciao, Chance. See you soon!

Captivating storytelling and interesting characters who create the plot and develop with the plot. I loved this. JCP can make even the disturbing and macabre lyrical and life-affirming. What would you wish for if you were dying? Would you wish for healing even if it meant that someone else would die? Would you male the choice to live your last moments to he fullest? I liked that, at the end of the story, the main character received his last wish and even his unwritten wish to meet up again with the handsome man restocking the vending machine.

Tear jerker alert.
Exquisitely written story and even though I was not 'surprised' I was surprised and emotionally caught up. Beautiful and exquisite - the best word for it. For the story and for its effect on me. Thank you.
